Peace Walk: Why Do I Walk for Peace?

One of the earliest peace marches recorded can possibly be dated all the way back from 1930 with The Salt March that Mahatma Gandhi led, a 24-day nonviolent civil disobedience march to the Indian Ocean.

Then, is peace walk still a thing today? Yes!

Fast forward to 2024, where there are thousands, millions of peace walks held worldwide. A long history of large and small groups have marched for justice and peace.

So why walk for peace?

In short, a peace march (walk) is a form of non-violent action taken by a person or group, to raise awareness about the violence of war and to make known the necessity of peace.

Personally, for me, I walk for Peace because I want to make known the great need to realize peace. Currently, the world is filled with many terrifying news about wars. No one should ignore what they have heard or seen about the wars that are happening. One can choose to just sit still.. or have a little courage to act and participate.

Seniors, adults, and young adults have learned history, maybe within each different form. But they all can acknowledge the dark tragedies of wars that have happened in the past.

We need to let more and more people know how peace can be achieved. It starts with me. You. Everyone.

This is why I walk for Peace!

Last week, I marched alongside many HWPL Volunteers, celebrating HWPL's 11th Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace and Peace Walk. Many citizens joined us for pictures and started peaceful discussions, all for the purpose of creating a world of peace.
